There was a time when there was real benefit to doing terrible things like quarantining an entire household due to a contagious illness (common in the pre-polio vaccine era)…sacrificing income of one household to benefit the neighborhood…but applying it society wide (for an unstoppable disease) was folly from day 1…but it was not obvious at the time as it had been generations since we as a society thought through the proper decision making pathway for use of quarantine. Our great grandparents would have made a different choice because they were familiar with the proper game theory of using quarantine orders.
