It was always meant to enshitify just because it's open source, that alone doesn't make it immune
The GNU/Linux ecosystem is pretty much centralized with 90 to 95% of distros using systemd, and recently Flathub (which is also bending the knee)
people used to say corporate backed projects are good because they have a way to sustain themselves, but we're seeing now that corporations care more about being compliant and less about what makes Free software a threat: It's principles.
Decentralization is now called fragmentation, and "can we just agree on one solid standard?" I bet you heard this before..
