one problem is "wealthy" nowadays doesn't always just mean millionaires, it includes your average petit bourgeoisie, particularly self-employed workers in the skilled trades who have done fairly well since the 1990s (particularly with regard to car ownership) and they get *extremely* paranoid about any type of political policy that might take this away from them (such as how the Greens may have scared off a lot of voters by going for a full ban on petrol/diesel cars by 2040, something they might have since u-turned on but haven't admitted to it yet)
