What's your current take on what I may start calling 'the altruistic pitch' that jack (npub1sg6…f63m) has mentioned many times about how we shouldn't form large companies and loose control of them to investors (like twitter did)?
I am concerned for Damus (and therefor the rest of nostr) in this position as you had mentioned VC and we can see what things like primal become.. I do not think it is purposefully done, just that choices will be made differently and ultimately go down the same path as twitter. Interop is sacrificed as low priority and easy quick money to save the company becomes one bad choice after another.
Essentially, company takes on lots of debt. Company must at all cost implement their way out of it and sell off their data, make partnerships with others in the same boat leading to the same playbook over and over.
Grants were suppposed to be an experiment to fix this, but even that does not seem to be working.
It does seem like angel investment, would have been a much better option, but you need some kind of business plan for revenue and nostr clients have not shown that.
Are we cooked? I hope you don't go the VC route.. Angle investment from the right person is the only thing I can think of that won't conflict with nostrs supposed ideals. Or grinding it out and just existing as opensource for future generations to discover and use in an archeology dig (somewhat is my 'plan').
I do think that nostr+VC will always lead directly in a circle back to the twitter story, and it is sad to see this keep happening anyway. So I am hoping it doesn't with damus corporation or that will definately be writing on the wall for me personally.. That I am just an unpaid roadmap for VC, helping create the things I most despise.
