I've seen some people on here post conspiratorial takes along the lines of: "the elites want to get us into a recession so they can buy everything for cheap."
That sounds scary and deliberate. But it completely ignores what we've seen from pretty much everyone in power: these are not smart people.
Most of the ruling class is not exceptionally bright or whatever. They have no idea what they're doing. Their sole defining characteristic is their extraordinary capacity for cruelty.
