I understand the concern, and I know that the true ideal migration would require major AP changes that aren't feasible immediately. Creating backdated copies of posts (like GTS and Sharkey do) would be an excellent medium-term solution.

I want to emphasize: this has been dangling for years, and the longer Mastodon goes without even a "good enough" solution, the more it's going to harm the ecosystem. I say this as someone who's very invested in Mastodon and wants it to succeed!
