Whenever me and my American friends met Germans in Germany I'd just start pretending I was one of the Americanos.
I'd tell them I was born in Texas and make up stories about the life there. I never told my friends about doing this in advance, so they just had to adapt because it'd be weird to tell random people we just met that I'm lying. Peak cinema.
The cherry on top was convincingly pulling this off with British people, felt very confident in my accent back then.
