When I first built #Nymchat its settings were fairly basic and I just used local storage to store them. As they grew, I switched to using kind 30078. But then more and personal settings were implemented, of which anyone could actively see if monitoring relays. The other day I swapped all group chats metadata and app settings to using self-addressed giftwrap, based on NIP-17. This way all of the settings are encrypted and free from anyone snooping what group chat names you’re in, who you blocked, etc.
