I think the idea of helping people who have been in social housing for a long time to buy a property is good - and the properly often has to be the one the person has lived in.

But - and I think this is important - the way it was implemented was utterly wrong. It should have been done so the government pays the whole property price to the council, which should have been required to be spent on new social housing.

It was actually done deliberately to destroy the social housing provision.
