This is all for RF co-ax distribution, by the way, which is 1970s technology. A big fat low-loss trunk cable, a bunch of low-noise repeater amplifiers, and some RF taps to tap off an amount of the (crazy high power) signal from the trunk for each house.
With an RF Over Fibre setup (1980s-1990s tech), the headend has a bunch of RFoF transmitters, each feeding fibres which run to the nodes. The nodes feed the return path back over another fibre.
