While you have to pay for space and power, those are orders of magnitude less expensive than the ongoing costs of using cloud resources... once you have paid for the hardware anyway.

The only real benefit to using cloud services that remains after taking both the expertise and cost factors out is geographical diversity - something you can still handle yourself.
