I get the impression that party membership is more volatile than it used to be. I can't work out whether that's a good thing or not.

On the one hand, people making active decisions about their support for parties suggests a more engaged populous. On the other, perhaps reduced loyalty is because people feel generally let down. Maybe it's just a factor of online management making it easier to join or leave. My gut is telling me it's a mix of three.
