It is really hard to find a novel that appeals to me. For example, I really like sci-fi. At least, in theory.
To find a good sci-fi book I like, I have to:
1. Dismiss all books that use sci-fi as a plot device for romance and erotica.
2. Dismiss all "hoo-ra" military subgenres
3. Read a sample and *hope* the actual writing is compelling enough
I can't say this enough. Finding anything good is a tough slog.
