People don't understand incentives. The incentives make it so that the 2 main parties don't want the system to change. Therefore the only way the system will ever change is if a 3rd party wins (and actually changes the system after winning). But people don't want to vote for 3rd parties, even though it's the logical thing to do to change to a fairer system, because of short term incentives, and because of some misguided notion that "if I don't vote for the winner my vote is wasted" i.e. treating politics like a football game.
Ironically this is probably the election with the biggest chance in 60 years of a 3rd party actually winning. The uniparty are doing their utmost to prevent him (including a huge media attack campaign) but RFK has a real shot.
