yeah I was thinking, when it comes to something like unity, that it's better to keep asset files and imported assets separately in the UI. So all the asset files that you don't actually use don't clutter everything up. Plus that you can more easily do filtering, groupings etc. on imported assets.

For your option 4, do you still envision dragging panels from location to location? What about floating panels? because then you end up w/ the previous points I was raising
