On the contrary, your description of the general user here is a strawman, but in any case, people are people and when it comes to people, you can't group everyone into one glop. You rather have to talk and find people you vibe with.

This feels like a strange thing to need to explain to someone but I've explained simpler things in the past maybe just reminding people of things they already know and just applying it to the context of discussion. Maybe that's just what I want to believe though.

Maybe its that you aren't used to having to sort though people. Maybe you're just very used to thinking as most people think and being in a situation where that isn't the case is alien to you? Understand this is not a strawman, but an attempt to understand you.
