One if the first things you learn in library school is how to conduct a "reference interview", because most people do not actually know how to describe what they want, but will reveal it after the application of guiding questions.
So, when someone asks if we know how to compress files, I can say yes, because I do know how to do that, and Windows has a built-in method of doing so.
However, the person asking doesn't just want to create archives, they want to compress 6GB of files to 10MB.
