california cops have this arrangement where they apply a mandatory 30 day impound for a vehicle, and the tow company is allowed to sell the vehicle at 30 days.
this is after charging the owner of the vehicle a daily storage fee. of course, after 30 days lots of people cannot afford to redeem their vehicle.
i was caught in this in my early 20s, just barely able to extract myself from a situation that could have easily sent my life down a very different path. it was a lesson in ACAB i will not forget.
