TLDR yes Zcash always had the "superior tech", but they took shortcuts to get there. Like a bodybuilder on steroids.
Zcash had a trusted setup, took dev taxes from coins in order to fund research and their mega corporation, etc. Monero is all natural all organic: voluntary research, voluntary funding, no coins ever taken from anyone, and always being trustless to use. And today in 2025 the XMR community still managed to develop even superior technology than ZCash
So when fcmp++ is live, zcash will be a thing of the past, never having a reason for it to be relevant ever again
