if it is not an urgent issue, maybe buy a cheapish old one and try out some linux distros. When I realized I had to go back to a non Apple universe, I started with an old Lenovo (Yoga, that is still in use as a comic book and generally PDF reader).
I would recommend tuxedo computers, but I am not sure shipping to UK is feasible these days
