there is probably a paper there about the outrageous sense of entitlement of colonial people wrt indigenous people. I remember reading about first nations people in the eastern US who the brits wanted to put into nice boarding schools to "learn to be civilised". They all escaped. None ever joined European society voluntarily but some Europeans went the other way.
