Nostr seriously needs a way to self sustain itself, it is slowly shutting down over time.
First we lost nostr.band, now we are losing the Damus relay too.
And this is a massive loss for Nostr.
And this is nothing against Will or anyone else, we owe them a lot for all the time they have run them, but it is only a matter of time before any free service can no longer afford to be free.
You can’t run at a loss forever, even on grants it’s just a matter of time before funds dry up.
My idea is implement relay subscriptions via clients directly, this way it makes it easy to understand and track.
Media hosts too.
But this alone is not enough, we need to revise how it all works I think.
