my experience doing anti-fascist work is quite the opposite and folks who seem to want to go to extremes as the default don't last long. because people who have done such work know that defaulting to the extreme isn't something that can fight fascism. it's not just an "optics" situation. it's understanding what fascism feeds on.
if trump had been assassinated, we would not even really have an election this term. assassinations in general tend to garner sympathy, but i actually would be less confident in saying this were, say, biden assassinated, that we would have a sure shot at a democratic president.
because a biden assassination would also feed fascism, demonstrate the weakness of their enemies who are also so strong.
if trump had been assassinated, we would not only almost certainly be facing a non-election this year, but we would be facing a presidential candidate far more dangerous than trump could ever be
