Therefore, just speaking theoretically of course, the course of action which would seem to most minimize both the amount of money you give to the federal government and the amount of risk you're taking, is:
a) adjust your tax withholding throughout the year so you owe around (but not less than) $2,500 on April 15;
b) file your taxes normally by the deadline; and
c) pay $2,500 less than you owe each year.
