This "message passing in a fully p2p way while remaining private/anonymous" problem has been solved numerous times before nostr came along, the decision to centralize around relays seems misguided according to the stated ideals of nostr devs and community. Maybe nostr is "decentralized enough" but other protocols are moreso. Look at freenet, hyphanet, i2p, simplex, various mixnets, etc. You point to Tor as a good solution to that particular edge case and I agree, and theres no reason, especially for something as small as text notes, that you can't publish to multiple relays or have relays automatically republish to others.
