Free relays are not economical, and if they are economical, then they’re not performant and are thus useless, if everyone used free relays, those free relays would die from the cost of spam, as has happened with Damus and will happen with every other relay that is free.
Indirectly or directly, someone has to pay, something has to be monetized.
Or you can just run your own relay limited to 10 friends and call it a day, that’s fine.
