Software development and software testing are two entirely different disciplines. The trend in corporate software to treat them as interchangable or easily combined has caused testing skills to atrophy across the industry. The result is software that is less reliable, less stable, and less secure than a decade ago. Software that needs constant updates just to keep from falling over.
The only group of developers who really think about how to test software these days are hackers and security researchers. And many of them wear dark-colored headgear.
