When we got off our buses, the first thing I noticed was the carob espalier although I suppose it's more like carob pleaching. That's a first for me!

I've seen carob clipped to grow like a box hedge or topiary. I've seen carob bonsai. But I've never seen a pleached line of carobs.

It was in such a weird place, too! Normally you'd do this to grow fruit in a small space or to provide a living fence or cover an unsightly wall.
