Something to know, if you haven't had experience in the Australian hospital system. (I can't speak for aged care, except that I've heard it's significantly worse).

There is *not* a high standard of care for vulnerable people in Australian hospitals.

If you can eat alone, shower yourself, and remember your own important information, the health care you receive will be very good.

If you can't do those things, you're fucked without a family member.

During a period when my Dad could not move or remember where he was, we had to fight for the most basic care.

Daily, I saw him:

- without food because it was dleiverd but there was no one to open it for him, bring it to him, or feed him (he couldn't use a spoon).

- without pain medication, because he forgot how to use the button and no one checked on him

- without any kind of body washing (because he needed to use a hoist and they almost never had three people on shift to use it, and because he'd ask for the hoist, some nurse would write down that he'd shower later, so he didn't even get a sponge bath)

- without his teeth brushed (for two weeks before we found out) because they just assume you're doing that, but the visiting hours are short and no one tells you, and he couldn't access the sink himself.
