Yeah, definitely. Centralized social media isn't going anywhere, but I'm hoping for less dominance.

The great thing about open source and open systems, is that the benefits generally accumulate over time. Good for people with low time preference.

I recently worked for 2 years on a closed social app. It's been released and has users, but management decided to kill it as part of a larger cost-savings plan.

All that work is now basically for naught and soon the service will be gone for good.

With Nostr that's basically impossible. The only thing that can kill it is no-one using it. But there's no "management" that can kill it. And the open source software cannot be pulled or removed. It's there to be used by anyone.

As long as there is a hardcore group of users, it's alive. Perhaps a cockroach would be a better mascot than an ostrich 😆
