We have in the interim reduced both the number of acute hospitals, and the number of staffed beds.
So even if needs had not altered, most of our need for hospital care is at each end of our lives, the duration of stay has shrunk so service time reduced, but the number of servers (staffed beds) and locations has reduced dramatically, so of course throughout has reduced.
Amalgamation of multiple hospitals into a megahospital continues despite evidence showing its less cost effective.
