Yes, I've watched a number of YouTube videos on the Air3 and I think they all mention the accumulation trick (combining low charged batteries into one better charged battery). I did that once and it worked nicely.
But, none of the videos I watched mentioned the need for a third party power supply.
With the Mini2, it was never really necessary. They charged fast enough and I had 5 of them. ;-)
