At the individual node impl do as you wish… à la SPV
the risk that P2P operators will choose convenience over best practice is too high
Full IBD checks chainstate against another Full IBD as best practice
Over a long enough timeline this IS a dependency risk… even if security is strong upfront
You must consider that your children’s children will run the P2P network
