Why Nostr? What is Njump?

NFTs on Nostr

Putting this out again...don't know why, but somehow I think it's important. Who can figure this out?

I don't know if it's possible, but it certainly _feels_ possible. Can there be NFTs on Nostr?

I've written and pondered on NFTs a few times and come up with a definition that I think works in laying out exactly what an NFT actually is. I defined NFTs as Verified Unique Ownership (VUO for short). (See NFTs defined in three words | PeakD and ponderings at PeakD)

The upshot of VUO is this:

V = verified = The NFT (which is nothing more than metadata such as a custom JSON) is openly visible to all to verify and cannot be altered.
U = unique = The NFT/metadata is unique. Although a monkey jpeg may be the same for all 1,000 mints, the owner of mint #1 will definitely not trade with the owner of mint #859.
O = ownership = The NFT can be transferred to another person and that transfer can also be verified.

With regards to Nostr, the V, the verified, seems to be the challenge. It seems that the hang-up would be persistence (or lack of persistence) in data. That is, having the metadata persistently stored on Nostr may be a high hurdle. It may be impossible. For instance, if I minted an NFT and the metadata got stored on several Nostr relays, it seems that would work. The data can be verified by others. It's persistently verifiable until...those relays go down or close up shop or purge that metadata note. Then, that NFT is gone. This, of course, differs from a blockchain.

Regarding the O of ownership, I'm really not sure how that would transpire on Nostr. But, I think clever people could figure that out. If the persistent V of verifiability were solved, then a persistent alteration should also be possible to track on the "Nostr blockchain", the "nostrchain."

If this were possible...what would be the use cases? I really don't know. I do think they would emerge though. Being around Nostr suggests to me that the fun-factor would be off-the-charts though. There are some clever and comical people in this space. Fun, is an important use-case in my view, by the way!
