I totally agree that reply controls would be a significant user bump. It's just really hard to add when you mix it with visibility controls. One way to simplify it (and potentially get it sooner) would be to only add reply controls to PUBLIC posts.

I understand why people would want something else, my argument is that the vast majority of the time people want reply controls on public posts so tackle that first.

Would that work for you?
