I kind of want to start a national advertising campaign to teach people why they should zipper merge where the lane ends, not get over a mile beforehand.
A lot of people think it's "rude" to go all the way up to the end & merge when traffic is backed up, but not using all lanes is *why* traffic gets so backed up in those scenarios.
Use all lanes until the lane ends. Then cars in the lane being merged with should take turns. This creates a better traffic flow.
