I know from my personal experience when I was low contact with both my parents the reason why I opened contact again with my mom is that she decided to be willing to listen and to take responsibility for the things I was upset about, and I went no contact with my dad because he had no interest in that. Did I consider whether it would ruin their lives? Sure. Did they consider that staying in that situation was ruining mine?
