After nearly 20 years, I've finally decided to jump from #irssi to #weechat.
I almost feel like this guy
https://xkcd.com/1782/Main reasons:
1. Yes, I used to code a lot in Perl 20 years ago, but that's no longer the case - and I've never understood why irssi stubbornly supports only scripts in Perl, while Weechat supports nearly any scripting language around.
2. I used irssi+bitlbee with a ton of bridges and plugins to bridge other protocols to IRC. As I moved to Matrix, most of my bridges went there too, while I ended up maintaining some old (and brittle) libpurple integrations just because they were required by bitlbee, which was the only way I could get irssi to speak non-IRC protocols. Weechat has nearly native (albeit still experimental) Matrix support, while irssi still has only a non-functional proof of concept.
