It's true enough that **liberty** is not a monolithic concept. There are numerous liberties and rights which have had to be slowly unearthed as it were, their existence revealed by the pain and suffering and conflict that comes with denying them. Properly speaking, human rights are defined in a negative way: they are not concrete things but abstractions we collectively agree apply to all human beings, and honored by forbidding the abrogation of these rights and seeking justice when human rights have been traduced.
U.S. #politics thinks of "human rights" in an authoritarian sense, as privileges granted through specific acts of human law. This is false, but it's not actually fashionable to support liberty or democracy in contemporary U.S. politics or #media.
