The point of any proposed reform is to win the next election. Now that the Republicans ignore the law it's all about power. Sadly most Americans don't follow politics and don't understand what's going on (the time I spend talking with bothsidering normies, urgh) and they still want "bipartisanship" and "compromise". They're the ones that elected Trump (Harris won 2 to 1 with people well informed about politics) and so the Democrats have to appeal to them.
