Well, IMHO... Single-industry towns go through economic ups + gut-wrenching downs. Multiple times. Over time, some folks need someone to blame -- and they're susceptible to being taken advantage of.
A town in B.C. is one. Many good people from there moved out during the 1980s economic downturn (and recurring ones). Some of the folks who stayed are currently caught up in a fight against a proposed town name change (FN proposal).... nasty, stoked by a web of big players.
