was out with dad when they did the blade tracking on the S76.
High speed camera on the nose and put the aircraft through it's paces.
Dad got to do it due to his multi tens of thousands of flight hours and the fact he was an army air corps instructor and display pilot.
Last run of the day he asks if I want to have a go.
So I hop in the copilot chair, strap in and we taxi out to the end of the runway.
Power on, settle into hover at about 100ft. Get permission from tower and he noses down.
Now. Choppers generally put in a bit of nose. Gets the airframe moving. Then the tub becomes an airfoil and it settles....
I'm looking straight ahead through the windscreen and seeing grass.
I look up and see grass.
No skylights on a 76. But probably would've seen grass through that.
Hear the blades strain, the engines pick up and we go fucking off down the strip at a rate of knots >.>
Anyone else I'd have said it was reckless.
