Buried deep in all those references and others is the fact that written language was invented for trade: marks in clay to signify the number of jars of pig fat and such. It also tracks with accelerating biosphere destruction (although the last 150 is most of it). This is part of the Bateson paper, as well as the core allegories and myth. Some in this general domain of discussion in this thread propose we avoid written language altogether in the future:
