The Smart People Problem
Smart people often suffer because they live too much in their heads.
Rumination, anxiety, overplanning, overanalyzing,
the intellect turns inward and begins to eat itself.
The solution is not more thought. It is embodiment.
Do something physical. Something focused.
Not taxing to the brain, but demanding of attention.
Craft. Clean. Lift. Build. Shape. Breathe.
Get in your body and the loop breaks.
Television and video games can interrupt the loop,
but they introduce new stressors and dependencies.
They distract, but they do not ground.
Over time, if you exit the loop often enough,
your nervous system learns:
this is not a state we want to return to.
And slowly, the loops unwind.
