We’re all pretty much used to the old desktop metaphor, with windows, menus, panels, launchers, system trays, a desktop and icons, etc.
But these sort of suck, if you really think about it it, so I took a look at these old UI conventions, and tried (and failed) to come up with a better solution for each:
