I don't know how substantiated this is, but I've heard they actively recruit at pride events and have for a very long time. Because a submarine full of men in tight quarters for months at a time...who do you think could tolerate that, much less actually enjoy it? And many gay men don't have families, so why not? They're wayward sea cowboys. SO it doesn't make sense to nix the people CONDITIONED for that sort of lifestyle. I mean I'm gay with no family. I could fucking do that and have fun.
