Margaret Attwood's MaddAddam trilogy context background is a near future dystopian society where pharmaceutical companies keep use genetic engineering to keep launching medicines to cure pandemic outbreaks but which also have embedded the biological agent to spread the next disease. I was terrified when I read the first novel, Oryx and Crake, because I could see all that happening. Now, twenty years later, that feeling is ever more present.
