So, whatever it was, it wasn't Assad's plane. Tyler Rogoway notes (https://x.com/Aviation_Intel/status/1865818555377418422) a FIRMS hit did eventually show up in that area, but IMO it seems late (acquired ~10:40 UTC, 13:40 Damascus time) when the plane disappeared around 02:40 UTC, and suspiciously close to a feature that looks like a garbage dump or quarry, although there aren't regular repeating hits there.
