I wish more people questioned their assumptions. I have to admit I've had to unlearn some things at times. You really have to suspend your disbelief at times to be receptive to knowledge and truth. Anyone can do it if they are interested in truth over social acceptance. Even a person who grew up in a liberal family with liberal tendencies could do it. The will is what is missing and the fear of being alienated is powerful.
