The German prefix "ver-" is a bit of a bad omen since it can change the meaning of a verb - often not really to the better:
lassen = to let
verlassen = to leave
raten = to advise
verraten = to disclose, to betray
jubeln = to cheer
verjubeln = to squander (money)
laufen = to run
verlaufen = to get lost
fallen = to fall
verfallen = to decay, to expire
gehen = to go
vergehen = to decay, to pass, to die
recken = to stretch
verrecken = to die
So: Don't verenjoy our language!
